Sup, Hypenerds. Welcome to my 6 Fashion tips for Everyone. Humanity has been obsessed with fashion since our ancestors first started wearing clothes. Clothes evolved from articles of cloth to protect ourselves to full statements on the person’s economic, social, and even political beliefs. With the expansion of social media and the ability to connect across oceans in seconds, many styles had caused some people to be confused about how to dress and be chic or cool. This article has some tips I have learned and use when thinking about fashion.
So these tips are split into two categories: Shopping and Styling. Both groups are essential to having a good sense of style. Best way to describe the two is thru two metaphors: Grocery Shopping and Cooking. Shopping for new clothes is like grocery shopping. If you don’t restock in food, then you will be hungry and not your best self. If you don’t restock in clothes, your style may, and you will not be your most confident self. Styling is like cooking a meal. A meal should have many components like vegetables, fruits, meat, etc. A balanced meal should not have too much or too little of any one thing. Same goes with styling. You should be balanced and not be too heavy in one food. These tips are designed to help save money, time, and frustration while being fashionable and feeling confident. Without further adieu, here are my 6 fashion tips for everybody.
Tip #1: Find Your Fit

This tip is the most important tip. It is perfect for when you enter a clothing store to buy clothes. Buying clothes that you like or want to wear is the best way to go when shopping, especially if you are someone who new to fashion or changing your look. Many fashion trends are in style or hype all around the globe, but may not be what you like. Especially with the rise of a global social age, new trends from everywhere are at your fingertips, but that can make it harder for the regular consumer due to external forces like price, access, and most commonly fit. One of my biggest fashion battles was with the current skinny jean trend. For my entire life, I have had big thighs and a big butt. Skinny jeans never worked because of even tho they would fit my waist, I would not be able to move as well. So I found a trend that I liked: slim tapered chinos, joggers and jeans. They would give me a look of skinny jeans but made me comfortable and still have the freedom to move around. Well-fitting clothes and clothes you will feel comfortable in goes a long way of being stylish.
Tip #2 Cheap Essentials=More Money

Which is cheap? Watch link below to find out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EZ7WJOCxEQ
This tip is one of the hallmarks of my fashion and has helped me build my closet faster with little money. Buy your essential pieces either for less or in bulk enables you to save up for other expenses and even more hype/ expensive clothing pieces. When I talk about essentials, I talk about pieces that will never go out of style, can be apart of any outfit or be unfashionable. Examples are basic white t-shirts, blue jeans, white socks, and other articles. Best way to know if something is essential is looking into the past media and see people still wearing it fashionable. Today many stores will provide essentials in packs or cheaper. Using a white tee as an example, many stores like Uniqlo, Cotton On, Target, and even Costco can give a buyer either a tee for less than $15 or packs less than $30. Doing this will help you buy more expensive pieces faster like Supreme Box Logo Sweatshirts/T-Shirts or Suits which are hundreds if not thousands. It also helps save more money if you are on a limited budget or don’t want to spend too much.
Tip #3 Buyers Beware Online

This next tip is suitable for people who don’t have immediate access to stores or want to save time. Beware of buying new clothing items online. With the growth of e-commerce in the last decade, people have access to brands from other countries and get them without having to visit the place. This also creates a problem with the sizing and fit of some pieces. This has happened to me many times when I order something, and I can’t wear it because it doesn’t fit how I like it. That is why you should try on the same piece or similar piece in a store before deciding to buy it online. You could ask a friend how the clothes fit or even try on his pieces for yourself. Also, you can find reviews and comments on different brands/clothes on Youtube and other sources. This makes online shopping easier and takes the frustration out of having to return an item.
Tip #4 One Small Step In Your Outfit, One Great Step in Style

This tip was inspired by one of my fashion mentors, Frank Peters. As one of my father’s friends and assistant coaches, I had the privilege of being around Frank and see how he would use small details like matching a pocket square with his tie when wearing a suit or wearing a bowtie to enhance his outfit. While I want to do a more extensive article and possible video on this subject, I will make this tip brief. Using small details like small splashes of color or accessories like necklaces or watches can elevate your outfit from okay to amazing. It shows others that understand the little nuisances of fashion, and you pay attention even the smallest details on yourself.
Tip #5 Don’t Believe the Hype

Before I get into this tip, I must state this: It is okay to wear hype brands like Supreme, Gucci, and Bape. Personally, I like many of the pieces that these companies create and think that they look good on people. One day, I want to wear and style these brands. On that note, be careful when styling these pieces. Trying to wear a bunch of hype pieces together will make you like a hypebeast: someone who buys these brand just for hype or flex their cash flow. While some people will think that your style is fresh or clean, many people will be turned off by the brands because they will assume some negative stereotypes of the brand. Best way to style hype clothing is where one or two pieces at a time or what it called a slight or subtle flex. You get the flex without gaining the label of hypebeast.
Tip #6 Have the P. Diddy Mind-state

For those who don’t know rapper and hip hop mogul Sean Combs AKA Diddy, the best word to describe this person is confident. Diddy oozes charisma and confidence thru his clothes and actions. He uses the idea that he looks good in anything to boost his style.
In styling in clothes, you want your confidence to ooze from your outfit, not the other way around. You should feel good in your clothes not because the clothes look good. Your fit is your personality, your emotions, and yourself physical on display. You wear clothes and don’t let your clothes wear you.
Thank you for reading my first article. If you’re going to try some of the pieces or brands I suggested, links will be at the bottom of the article. I also will have a companion piece on shoes published with this one for those who wish to update or change their shoe game. Stay tuned for more articles on my different social media accounts. Thank you and stay fresh, Hypenerds.
